Lake District II

For a family with two elementary-aged children, this Lake District home needed to feel open, connected, and expressive while still grounded in timeless design. Though beautifully traditional in structure, the original layout felt segmented and closed off. Our goal was to open it up while honoring its classic framework.

Our most significant intervention was removing the wall between the Kitchen and the adjacent Sitting and Dining Rooms, creating a fluid main level where cooking, conversation, and homework now unfold together. Classic creamy white cabinetry with unlacquered brass hardware preserves longevity, while a dramatically veined, fluted viola marble hood brings sculptural presence against tailored millwork.  Layered soft neutrals punctuated by blush, pale blue, and warm taupe flow through the open Kitchen and gathering spaces. Grounding prints add depth without overwhelming the calm, and the expanded footprint allows light to travel freely, transforming the Kitchen into the true heart of the home.

While much of the main level leans serene, the home is not without bold personality. A small bedroom near the Kitchen was reimagined as a Wine Lounge, complete with a concealed wine cellar hidden behind paneled millwork. Bathed in dramatic purple and wrapped in playful bloom-printed wallpaper overhead, the space is immersive and unexpected.  The Den offers a tailored, handsome retreat with a deeper tonal shift from the lighter public rooms. Rich textures and structured upholstery create the perfect setting for family movie nights or evenings entertaining friends.  The Powder Bathroom becomes a storybook moment. Enveloped in a custom mural depicting a fairytale forest at sunset, four hidden apples (one for each family member) are tucked into the branches.

Downstairs, we reconfigured a bathroom to carve out a hardworking Mudroom, bringing order to daily routines. A vibrant Playroom balances polish with play, designed to grow with the family while remaining integrated into the home’s overall aesthetic.

Lake District II is layered and alive - timeless in its foundation, expressive in its details. Above all, it is a house reshaped around a family, designed for noise and gathering, for growth, and for the stories still unfolding within its walls.
