Richmond District

Sometimes a single reference image can unlock the direction of an entire home. When the client shared a rainbow Missoni carpet early in the design process, it became the conceptual spark for the interiors setting the tone for a design language grounded in color, pattern, and personality.

This Richmond District house presented an opportunity to shape interiors that reflect a family of four’s dynamic daily life and their love of entertaining. While the house offered generous square footage, the interiors required a thoughtful reimagining to better support how the family lives, gathers, and moves through the space.

Rather than a full structural overhaul, the renovation focused on targeted architectural changes to improve flow and function. In the Kitchen, the refrigerator was relocated and the wall shared with the Dining Room was opened to strengthen the connection between the two spaces. An awkwardly placed wet bar was reimagined as a walk-in Pantry, significantly increasing storage. To accommodate a long-imagined Breakfast Nook, a window was removed, creating a cozy corner wrapped in herbier studies wallpaper and built-in seating that now serves as the family’s everyday gathering spot.

The most dramatic shift in atmosphere came with the addition of a speakeasy-inspired Bar just off the Dining Room. Lacquered walls, rich walnut cabinetry, and bronzed mirror create a moody, reflective backdrop - all topped off with a fabulous disco ball.  What was once a simple pass-through has been transformed into one of the home's most memorable moments.

Across the interiors, color, pattern, and material move from room to room in conversation. The result is a house that feels layered, personal, full of character, and one that wants to be visited time and time again.
